Introducing The Heart Rhythm Center at Louisiana Medical Center & Heart Hospital

Each year more than 325,000 deaths are attributed to sudden cardiac arrest, many of which are caused by cardiac arrhythmia or an irregular heartbeat. The Louisiana Heart Hospital has unveiled The Heart Rhythm Center to diagnose and treat heart rhythm disorders. We may be able to help correct A-Fib, eliminating the need for clot prevention medication and improving your quality of life.

Common Heart Rhythm Disorder Symptoms Include:

  • Palpitations, fluttering, skipping or pounding in the chest
  • Sensation of the heart racing
  • Continued fatigue or feeling tired
  • Dizziness or blackouts
  • Shortness of breath
  • Chest pain, discomfort or stroke

Catheter Ablation - Outpatient Procedure

Catheter Ablation is an outpatient procedure performed at the Louisiana Heart Hospital by the most experienced electrophysiologist in the region. The procedure destroys abnormal tissue areas returning the heart to normal rhythm. The process calls for the insertion of several electrode catheters into the heart to find and destroy the tissue. As a result of the procedure, the tissue is no longer capable of conducting or sustaining the arrhythmia.

Mini Maze - Inpatient Procedure

The Louisiana Heart Hospital is the only hospital in the region offering the minimally invasive Mini-Maze procedure. The cardiothoracic surgeon uses high frequency radio waves to isolate areas of the heart where irregular signals start. The ablated tissue can no longer conduct electrical impulses, interrupting the transmission of the abnormal signal and allowing the rest of the chamber to resume beating normally. This operation also has the benefit of reducing the risk of stroke associated with atrial fibrillation. The Mini-Maze procedure is performed in the Heart Operating Room and is an inpatient procedure.
